Man Wearing Santa Hat Shoots At Car In Tenderloin [Updated]

[Update: 1/5/18, 4:50pm] Police announced this afternoon that they have arrested Xavier Watson, a 27-year-old resident of Fairfield for the December 27th shooting.

Watson was identified by officers on the 4500 block of 3rd Street before he was arrested and booked on multiple felony charges: possession of cocaine for sale, transportation for sale of a narcotic or controlled substance, assault with a firearm on a person, and willful discharge of a firearm with gross negligence.

Police are seeking a man who was captured on video last week firing a gun at occupants of a car in the Tenderloin while wearing a Santa hat.

In the incident, which took place at 8:02am on Eddy Street between Mason and Taylor, the suspect is seen walking on the sidewalk before he approaches a Dodge Magnum and fires several shots. After the vehicle speeds off, the suspect walks away from the scene.

Although several people were walking and driving in the area, the shooting appeared to draw little notice. As the suspect left the scene, he appears to rack the slide of a semi-automatic handgun before concealing it in a pocket.

According to SFPD, no victims have come forth to report damage to their property or person.

Two people were shot last week on the same block where the unidentified gunman opened fire: a 37-year-old man was wounded on December 26th, and on December 27th, a 58-year-old woman was shot with a handgun on the 100 block of Eddy at 2:27am.

There's no word on whether the three incident are related, but police have stepped up their presence in the area in recent days.

Anyone who has information about this incident is encouraged to contact SFPD via the department's anonymous tip line at 415-575-4444, or text TIP411 with "SFPD" at the start of the message.
